Donations of books for the Leyendo libraries just keep coming and coming. Yesterday Mauricio, the son of my friend Karla Hernandez who is an English teacher in public schools, arrived with him arms full of donated books from his friends. These were texts that private school students had purchased for the past year of study that they were willing to pass on to new readers. I also learned that 7:30 Monday morning I would make an appeal for lightly used books to the entire school that Mauricio attends which is the private school for taxi drivers’ children in Playa del Carmen.
Also I received 45 pounds of books from a donor in the US. Almost all of these are very beginning English books that will be great for students who are eager to learn the language. Included were a set of encyclopedia books in Spanish for early readers on various topics: police officers, firemen, teachers, autumn, the head, use of the library and many more.
Leyendo is so appreciative of all donations. I understand there are four boxes of books waiting in Cancun for us that a friend’s family shipped from Mexico City.
The project is growing daily. Last week I set up a PayPal account to receive monetary donations: PayPal.me/Leyendo.
