I have posted some of these new paintings on Facebook but realized I have neglected my website, so here goes. I sat in on a watercolor workshop a few months ago and was intrigued by the technique so while we were in Philadelphia I purchased some new art supplies including tubes of water color paint and a book about watercolor sketching using a Sharpie pen to begin setting the images.
Then I veered off to some masks. I used the more traditional method of wetting the watercolor paper before applying paint for these. It works very differently, giving a consistent coverage of area. But learning to wait for paint to dry before applying an adjacent color was difficult. With oils I could just paint without waiting for anything!
And then I got brave and painted without lines, liking this a lot.
Most recently I have discovered gouache, opaque watercolors, with these two efforts. I thought I would always have oil under my fingernails but now realize that all mediums have different characteristics and I like exploring them all.
