Jim and I, and our Canadian friend James, decided to take a road trip to Merida during the week of American Thanksgiving. We boarded an ADO bus from Playa del Carmen which went south to Tulum and then northwest, through Valladolid for a 20 minute stop, and on to Merida in only 5 hours. My reason for going was a craft show, organized by some ex-patriots living in the Yucatan, of native artists making one of a kind objects. It was scheduled for Sat., Nov. 29, but we left on Tuesday so we had time for more adventures.
We shopped, James got his sneakers shined, took an open topped bus tour of the city (where we were slapped repeatedly by hanging branches, but saw a magnificent sunset), and walked the streets under the Christmas decorations. There will be more posts about the house we rented, the craft show, visits to Mayan ruins, the Museum of Popular Culture, and our visit to the State of Yucatan Fair.
