I have been reading YucatanLiving.com for some time. It is published by some ex-patriots living in Merida weekly with news of the area. It was there I heard of the upcoming craft show of native artists and also where I found advertised the house we rented for our week long visit. The photos were almost too good to believe and I feared the place would be half as big as it looked, but we were pleasantly surprised. There was need of more towels and linens, and an additional bed, but all were delivered the afternoon of our arrival. It has three bedrooms, three baths, furnished kitchen, living room with sliding wood doors that opened onto the back garden, a swimming pool, front and back gardens on the ground floor, and front and back decks on the second and third floors. Ceilings everywhere were 18 feet tall with ample ceiling fans and air conditioning in the bedrooms. The beds were king sized and comfortable. Only a walk of 7 blocks to the Plaza Grande, 2 blocks to Parque Santiago (with restaurants and market), we throughly enjoyed ourselves and for only $500 US a week for 5 of us, it was truly a find. Definitely a work in progress, (I believe we were the first renters) there promises eventually to be garden furniture and art for the walls. Unfortunately (for us) a long term rental has been arranged for a year beginning in February.
