November 1 and 2 is the celebration of the Day of the Dead here in Mexico. I lost my father this summer and will take this opportunity to honor his life, his wisdom, and his influence on me. The holiday is not morose, but rather a celebration of Life as it is carried on by others.
I began painting these Catrinas (skeleton ladies with fancy dresses and enormous hats) a month ago and now have quite a collection. I am learning anatomy in spite of myself and the art of painting draped fabric that I have always admired in Titian’s paintings, created in the 1500’s. Each is about 20 inches X 12 inches, oil on gessoed watercolor paper.
